All About CWAS

The Central Westchester Audubon Society of White Plains is about birds, as its name suggests, but it is also about education: education for children, about what birds, animals, rivers and streams, trees and plants mean to the Earth and our own lives and to the future of the Earth we all live on.

Our Mission Statement
The mission of Central Westchester Audubon Society is to promote education, share information, support activities and advocate for a healthy environment, focusing on birds, other wildlife and human beings.

Driving Directions to Church Street School
for our Programs

Take I-287, Cross-Westchester Expressway, to Exit 6, North Broadway. Going west-bound (toward Tarrytown) turn left at end of ramp, and turn left (south) on North Broadway. Going east-bound (toward Rye): turn right (south) at top of ramp on North Broadway. Then take the first right, immediately after expressway ramp, on to Westview. Westview has a sharp left turn into Church Street. The entrance to the school parking lot is on the right, 0.2 miles from Westview.

How can I help and work for CWAS?

Will you contribute an hour or more of your time to help us with our local Audubon activities? There are a lot of volunteer opportunities to work with our board.

CWAS is always welcoming good people with great ideas and a willingness to devote some time. You could make a big difference. We believe those of you who are interested in nature and our natural environment would find great satisfaction in working with our dedicated and supportive board members to further the educational mission of CWAS.

Usually, our board meets on the second Thursday of the month at the Church St. School and our Open Meetings are on the third Thursday of the month. We invite all who are interested to attend one of our meetings. If you would like to take advantage of this invitation or wish to volunteer your time, please send us an e-mail at cwas@centralwestchesteraudubon.org. Remember, you can take on as small or as big a job as you wish - all contributions of time, energy and ideas are welcome.

What is CWAS' geographical area?

This local chapter of National Audubon Society was founded in 1976-77, an outgrowth of the White Plains educational and civic group SEEDS (Science and Nature, Environment, Education Development Society). It now encompasses Greenburgh, Rye, Portchester, Harrison and Purchase, as well as White Plains. Since its inception, CWAS members have fulfilled its mandate by fostering environmental education through its programs and school projects.
